Ear Mountain

Ear Mountain peak is distinguished for me by the angled granite cliff that juts above the mountain top. Anywhere I go, I search for it with it’s striated rock and the tiny notch on the top. It looks over the town of Choteau like a distant sentinel. From the local paper the Acantha, one theory on it’s name is from the local author A.B. Guthrie. According to him, the Mountain Men in the early 1800’s thought it looked like an elephant ear. Hiking trails will lead you to spectacular views. But for me, being in the shadow of this mountain, seeing it’s beauty change moment by moment with the swift clouds and sunlight, is enough.

    Hi Pam,

I have heard there is Pike in Pishkun lake. Bynum Reservoir has perch and trout. Eureka Lake has some brown trout but I’ve heard people mostly catch suckers there.
